Pure Birth
After the split between our worlds, darkness, again, covered the earth, in the hearts of humanity. Lost in the darkness of sin, we find ourselves unable to pay the ransom to free our souls; unable to escape the grip of the evil one. We try for centuries to win the battle against sin, and we fail time and time again to reach God. The stronghold that darkness has on our hearts is only threatened by God’s promise to send the Light. Created in His image, it pleased the Counsel of God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) to devise a plan to save humanity. Each person of God will do their part, but the son goes. The son puts on flesh and accomplishes the will of the Council. It is done on earth as it is in heaven and it begins with a child. Jesus joins us in this impossible circumstance, in the most vulnerable state, a new born baby. His birth is the light that breaks through the darkness, loosening the stronghold of the evil one. His life is a heroing journey rife with adventure and adversity that can only be overcome if destined for greatness. He alone possesses the power to set our souls free, but he must put himself in harms way. While it is natural to wonder at our likeness in the smallness of a new born baby, this child is different. In his likeness we see ourselves. In His likeness we see what we were intended to be. In His likeness is the hope of being rescued from sin and death. If he fails He will be in our same position, marked for destruction and unfit for relationship with God the Father. The battle over our souls is a picture of ancient rivalry. But we’re watching the prequel. We already know who wins, yet, we marvel at the fragility of an infant born with such purpose. We marvel as the hand of God the Father guards the steps of His only Son. Made in the image of God, we can’t fully appreciate the Imago Dei, until we behold Him in flesh, behold him in our likeness. God’s perfection wrapped in flesh is humanity’s only chance of being rescued from sin. Equipped with purity this world knows not of, it qualifies Him to finish the task put before Him. A pure child, born in an unclean world to loosen the grip of darkness and redeem the Imago Dei. Unto us is give a gift of relationship.
